Holzer Winery – Exceptional Wines from the Traisental Region

„Our distinctive wines are the result of healthy grapes, vibrant soil, and sustainable vineyard management.“

The Traisental, one of Austria’s smallest yet most characterful wine regions, is renowned for its fruity, region-typical white wines. Our main focus is on Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Grüner Veltliner impresses with its spicy freshness, delicate peppery notes, and unique elegance, while Riesling stands out with its pure fruit, mineral depth, and remarkable quality. Both varieties are not only ambassadors of the Traisental region but also our pride and joy. Additionally, we offer Gemischter Satz, Gelber Muskateller, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.

The rich biodiversity in our vineyards is reflected in our wine selection. Animals that accompany us in our daily work in the vineyards adorn our labels – a tribute to the nature that surrounds us.

Red wine lovers will also find something to enjoy: Zweigelt, Blauburger, Blaufränkisch, Merlot, and Shiraz are part of our portfolio, along with our exclusive Cabernet creations, Red Point and Quercus.

The Swallowtail butterfly is our ambassador of lightness. On warm summer days, it flutters past our vines, leaving behind its graceful presence—captured in the essence of our light and refreshing wines.

Just like our wines, the emerald lizard thrives on the calcium-rich conglomerate soils of our region. The remarkable minerality found in the Traisental is the result of a unique geological formation. This creates wines from our sun-kissed slopes that are distinguished by their spicy character and refreshing acidity.

The European Bee-eater nests in the loess walls of our vineyards. Its neighbors are the grapevines that produce our wines—just as remarkable as this colorful bird, which has once again found its way back to our region.

We owe a great deal to Mrs. Bumblebee for her tireless work in our vineyards—an essential contribution to healthy grapes and the natural diversity that is reflected in our wonderfully refreshing white wines.

The shy field hare watches us work in the vineyard every day. But only when we create something truly special does it leap with joy—just like this delightful wine, perfect for special occasions.

At night, the owl keeps our vines company, bringing with it calm, wisdom, and stories. Just like our wines—each one tells a unique tale.

Viticulture with Love & Passion – A Tradition Passed Down Through Generations

„A winery is not built overnight – it takes love, time, and the dedication of several generations.“

There is always plenty to do in the vineyard – it’s a good thing when many skilled hands work together with joy to bring out the best that the soil of our homeland has to offer: a wine with incomparable character.

At the Holzer Family Winery, three generations work together, passing down the knowledge about the unique qualities of wine production in the Traisental. The special vineyard sites, healthy grapes, a thriving soil, and sustainable farming, combined with modern cellar technology, form the foundation for the region-typical fruity white wines and full-bodied red wines that we produce.

The Traisental

A Dreamland for Wine Lovers

„Nature blesses the Traisental with unique limestone-conglomerate soils. This creates wines with exceptional minerality.“

The Holzer Winery is located in Nußdorf in the Traisental, Lower Austria, just a few kilometers south of Krems, where the Traisen River flows into the Danube. The small terraced vineyards were dug into the loess soil long ago. What makes this area truly unique are the special conglomerate rock soils, which are found in no other wine region in Austria with such intensity.

The wines of the Traisental also benefit from the special microclimate of this region: Pannonian influences provide warmth and sunshine, while Atlantic currents bring cool air, playing an important role in the development of the aromas. This combination results in wines with a distinct profile: Authentic wines with crisp fruit, refreshing finesse, aromatic complexity, and a bold, spicy finish.
